Ron Stark of Albert Village here, with a little update for you...
As you all know, The Freed Unit and myself have been waiting with bated breath over the past couple of years for any definite plans by Ecstatic Records to release the aptly named Strait-Jacket album.
We can now tell you that the album is still to be ‘strait-jacketed’ for a little while longer, as the label has folded, whilst the management pursues another venture – the opening of a restaurant in Lake Tahoe!!!! As soon as we have any more news on this album, we’ll let you be the first to know. (It might prove to be another Smile, in which case you can hear it in thirty years time!!!)
In the mean time Ecstatic has released a split e.p featuring The Freed Unit and Seksu Roba. ( www.seksuroba.com ) The Freed tracks are ‘Abusement Arcade’ which was to appear on Strait-Jacket, along with a demo of a new song called ‘Serious Folly’. Seksu Roba’s tracks are called ‘Hesitation’ and ‘Anticipation’. It’s squelchy electronic fun – you’ll like it!! The ape on this page appears on the sleeve. (Artwork by Amore Hirosuke).
The compilation album Nursery Rhymes For Grown-ups, including Freed rarities from the past nine years also has no release date, as yet...
Now for some GOOD NEWS! The Freed Unit have decided that the album they are currently recording will be downloadable from this website. This will give you instant access to the music, and cut out the middle man! Art work will hopefully be available, so that if any of you want to make a little cd out of it, you can do. There will also be some more Freed movies for you to peruse on the downloads page. Adieu for now,
